The Suction-Side Cleaner
This type of automatic pool cleaner works in a manner very similar to a manual pool vacuum. It is hooked into your skimmer and automatically moves around your pool vacuuming up debri. Because it runs through your pools filtration system your pool filter will take the brunt of the work and will end up needing more frequent cleaning. Although the Suction-Side Cleaner is an automatic pool vacuum you need to be aware of the fact that if a clog occurs this will cause your filter to run dry and that can be very bad. The Pressure-Side Cleaner
These are some of the most popular types of automatic pool cleaners. Unlike the Suction Side Cleaner these models do not run though your filter. They do require a manual hookup to your pools return line (where the water shoots out). Basically, a Pressure-Side Cleaner uses this stream of water to create a vortex which sucks the debri off the pools surface and moves it into a reusable mesh bag which you empty when vacuuming is complete.
